In this thread, I am suggesting that there be a way to carve olive wood planks. This is my first experience doing anything of this sort, so please bear with me as I try to figure out how this works!
This idea came to me as I was sorting through all the wood from my orchard in-game. In Israel, at least, people carve statues and figurines out of olive wood. In real life, they are very beautiful. It would be neat if it were possible to carve similar things out of Olive Wood/Planks in Minecraft. It would add another creative element to the game, and it would give a use to all the olive wood I (and I imagine most gardeners) have accumulated.
To carve the wood, you would use either; (a) a chisel, (b) a dagger, or (c) a wood chisel/whittler specifically for this purpose. If you were to make a new chisel, I would suggest starting with the chisel recipe, but adding another iron ingot under the first one. If you were to add a whittling knife, I would suggest a horizontal lance/sword formation.
I do not know how possible this would be, but here is how I think the carving could/should work. You would, of course, start out with a block of olive wood, or, as suggested by a Fandom User, any kind of wood. I was thinking planks, but a log would work too. Then you would use whatever tool (suggestions mentioned above) to carve it. This is the part that might not be doable, but here goes. To carve it, you would hold whatever tool, and right click on a pixel of that block. The 1x1x1 pixel cube that that pixel was a part of would disappear. If that would work, you could turn a block like this:
into a statue like the famous Juicy Sweet by the famous Middle Earth artist Vincent Van Gollum shown below:
If that is too complex, as there would be 4096 1x1x1 cubes per block, you could make it so that every time you used the chisel/dagger/whatever on the block, it would take out a 2x2x2 pixel cube. That would still make it possible to do simple, but fun things like this:
That would make it so that there were only 512 removable parts. This would probably be a lot (comparatively) less complicated, but you could still do fun things, especially if you could darken pixels. Then it would be possible to do things like this:
Another thing you could do with this is make custom carving designs around a door, like this:
And even if that is too complicated, (which I would totally understand - even making a plugin that says "Hi" when you enter a server is hard!) maybe you could make it so that there were a bunch of preset designs, kind of like paintings, and every time you used the chisel/dagger/etc. on it, it would cycle to a random design. You could probably even have a way for it to detect item frames, and when you use the tool on the block, it would look for item frames nearby, and make the block look like whatever item is in the frame.
Like I said, it might not be feasible, but it would add another decorative element to the game, it would be fun, and it would put a good use to all those cool looking, but not particularly useful olive wood blocks.
Note: The pictures shown above are in creative, normal Minecraft. Every block in the pictures above would represent a piece that could be taken out, as I can't actually carve a normal sized block. Please pardon the villagers and cows.
Thanks for all you guys on the mod team do, and thanks for your time.
Any suggestions, tips, constructive criticism, or help will be greatly appreciated.
