Generic catapults are tension weapons. They use the bend of the wood to provide force. But, yes, the tension one is using the wood as a spring, like a bow and crossbow, whereas torsion weapons use twisted rope.. The rope untwisting is what provides force.
Ok, thanks! For some reason I thought that some catapults used ropes too. I am still curious to do some research, though.
Agreed.
If the wall was black, then was just the city white?

Onagers (very similar to catapults, but with twisted rope) are likely what you are thinking of.
Ok, this is going to be a mouthful but I'll do my best.
According to an Eyewitness Book, which I think are generally good sources, it says that (at least some) catapults were powered by ropes, sinews, and even hair, so I think that I'm at least not totally wrong.
Also, I noticed the Zombielizard mentioned something about the IRL time it was compared to. Could you give me a guess as to when that would be?
The book also mentions that stronger catapults required a winch to lower, so I may incorporate that at some point. I may also make a variation of the catapult that is all wood, as Recneps said.
Those are my thoughts, but please let me know what you guys think.

Yeah, the movies got this wrong. Minas Tirith had a black outer wall.. Same material as Orthanc. The inner walls, I believe, were white, which was the main colour of the city. It was the outer wall that was black.

Ok. I was not basing it off of the movies - even if that is what pops to mind - just memory.
Thanks!
All right!
I have decided to once more (almost) totally re-edit it.
It will include a lot of you guys' suggestions, and my thoughts/plans on them.
As with last time, it will probably take a little while, so please bear with me!
I will credit your ideas once I am done.
Once again, thanks for your support!
