I have been reminded recently the Gondorians and Northern Dúnedain all have a chance of spawning with names beginning with the prefix 'ara' or 'ar'. This, to me, is extremely odd.
Among the Dúnedain, that Sindarin word bears the connotation of a kingship (partly because of the identical word in Adûnaic), even though it can mean simply 'high' or 'noble'. This prefix was memorably used by the Chieftains of the Dúnedain, who claimed kingship over the destroyed Kingdom of Arnor (and at times Gondor), as well as some of the Kings of Arthedain and Arnor who preceded them.
Do ordinary Gondorians and Rangers also claim kingship? No. Would a parent name their child 'Last-king' etc? Unlikely.
Do we ever hear, in the book, of any Man of Gondor named after an ancient king? Again, no. I feel that these names should be replaced with more appropriate Sindarin names.
