Well, they did say large parts of code will have to be reworked, what they decide to go with in the end is up to them but situation in 1.15.2 is a lot different then in 1.7.10, some mods i know use axes impose slowness on you if you use both the axe and the shield at the same time. Just transfering combat from 1.7.10 verbatim could cause issues, it would be best to rework it to fit the new environment.
