Explain in detail how it exactly happened. Are you sure you were in hard difficulty? If you were in peaceful mod, it's totally normal then.

Also, please be aware that the mod changes food to last twice as long as normal. If you do not want these changes, you can disable them in the config. I think it's called "hunger changes" or something like that.
