I was trying to join a server earlier and this error came up and I tried closing Minecraft and reopening it but it didn't work and its really annoying me, anyone know how to fix it?
I might suggest double checking the server IP is correct, only because I recently had the same issue myself with my own self-hosted server I have for some friends and I, it turned out my IP address had changed hence they still had the old IP which gave exactly the same message as in your case.
In general, this tends to mean that the client is not able to connect to the host, and is not getting any sort of connection at all. Trying to access a host machine IP that doesn't exist (as in the case of this incorrect IP) would cause this.
