If you have played the mod, you may have known that occasionally, a neutral type of trader known as the 'Oddment Collector' appears. You can sell a variety of random detritus to him, and buy some...interesting meat, along with some Shire flowers.
What could possibly be evil about that! Just a man trying to survive, not allying with the Dark Tower or the White. True neutrality.
Or so it seems.
Even I would not be suspicious of these wandering folk, if it did not so happen that these 'beings' did not dwell in the depths of Hell...the first fortress of Melkor/Morgoth in the Deeps of Time, Utumno!
The dialogue of the Oddment Collectors there gives away some terrifying implications, and reveals the true nature of these detestable creatures!
"I'm planning to steal the Star of Earendil. Don't tell anyone!"
This proves that these beings actively lust for the Light of the Silmarils, and may have the capability to steal them!
"Ah, I remember this place back when they still called it Utumna."
As shown here, these are creatures that have a very long lifespan, even bypassing pre-canonical versions of the legendarium! As such, they must be interwoven within the fabric of reality!
"I'll see you down on the fourth level."
A uneducated observer would think that this means the overworld. But nay, if Utumno is essentially Hell, than that means that the fourth level is a far more ancient and foul place: Kuma, the Abyss! Also, like Melkor/Morgoth, they wish to destroy everything down to nothing, and expect to see our fea there.
These, along with many other sayings that profess that there is something amiss here, prove that Oddment Collectors are far, far more dangerous than even SAURON!
But...what are they?
If Tom Bombadil was a good being that arose out of the Music of the Ainur, than these are creatures, like the Nameless Things that gnaw at the roots of Ambar, that arose out of the Discord of Melkor! They still roam the earth today, plotting their return.
If we go even further, it could be argued that they emerged out of the Primeval Multiversal Source of Evil, the True Abyss. As such, they are manifestations...of a Multi-Universal malice that controls ALL! Melkor, Sauron, Lucifer? Pawns! The Evil Djinn, Yog-Shoggoth, Nyarlathotep? Nothing! THE FREAKING SCARLET KING?! A MOTE OF COSMIC ASH! I AM THE DEVOURER OF ERU'S LIGHT, THE NUCLEAR CHAOS, THE ANTI-GOD, THE FIRST EVIL! WHEN THE LIGHT OF CREATION WAS SPOKEN INTO BEING, A SHADOW WAS CAST! I AM THAT VOID!
