I recently noticed (mostly because this was implemented in another historical game I play) that this mod, and minecraft in general, lacks trample damage, which, in my opinion, can be pretty significant advantage. Rhinos have sort of trample damage, but even that comes from their horn, I think.

So I would like to suggest that whenever a mount (or mounted unit, mounts alone don't often run at anyone) runs straight at you, you would take small damage, maybe 1-3 hitpoints. Not very high damage to keep the game balanced, but enough to matter.
Now, the mount has to run at you, not next to you, they have to hit your hitbox significantly to matter.

Also, since trample damage would suggest you are pinned in the ground, you would also not take any knockback. (There could be more effects too, but minecraft's combat system is pretty simple, so I try to keep this simple too)

Now, this could also be made a bit smarter, maybe if you are pinned between 2 mounted units, you would also take trample damage?

I believe this would not make single mounted unit significantly power powerful, maybe even less, since it's harder to aim from horseback. But an army of mounted units would be devastating, as they should be. Currently the only advantage mounted units have (that I could think of) is that it's harder to outrun them.

Also, these mounted units could be countered rather easily by using long weapons with significant knockback, so I don't believe they would be overpowered in every situation.

As always, I'll be happy to hear your opinions, improvements, or reasons why this couldn't work. Thank you for your time,
