I've recently been self-hosting a server for friends and myself, and initially it was running fairly well without too much lag. However it recently seems to have worsened when doing any exploration at all. I've currently got 8gb RAM allocated to the server.
To try to find the issue I found a world pre-generator that one of my friends and myself have run a couple of tests on. Initially testing with the other few mods I have running alongside it, we were able to ascertain that it wasn't my internet connection just by travelling through the pre-genned areas until the lag increased significantly reaching non generated areas.
To try to narrow it down (i.e, see whether any other mods were contributing), we've just run a test today with only the LotR mod active. Upon spawning (while joining from my laptop computer - I have the server on my desktop PC), I immediately used one of the fast travel waypoints to get to the edge of the Shire (outside of pre-genned terrain area). Observing the server console at this point I could see average tick times had already jumped to over 1 second!
I'm pretty sure I have all the server files running off SSD (I basically have the main server folder located directly on my desktop), and I am able to run single player of my HDD using just 4gb of RAM with no issue for comparison, so I don't really understand what might be causing such issues with the server that it can barely support just 2 of us on at once using 8gb of RAM!
Does anyone have any possible solutions that might help?
