"Children" and "babies" are always human ;). The young of bears and lions are called "cubs".
The discussion on agression is as complex as in real life, among scientists: some people dare to swim with white sharks, saying that they are "territorial predators, but not aggressive per-sé", while we may walk in a wide circle around a mountain goat, lest it becomes aggressive. The extent of aggression differs per animal type, just look at how aggressive elephants or rhinos can be compared to lions, not to speak of the highest death-toll of mammals in Africa being hippos, known for their aggression.. We could even go as far as to say that midges or their African counterparts may be the most lethal in the game, so let's stay pragmatic instead of becoming scientists ;).
I would say that all Predators should be a risk factor and therefore prone to attack humans or non-predators like deer and cows, based on some RNG factor. No need to specify whether it's hunger, territory or cubs nearby, as we would not know anyway, it's an invisible game-setting, left up to your imagination to interpret.
To be honest though, it is indeed a bit irrealistic to have so many predators in the jungle, meek as cows and not even a serious threat in fights, while the first time I walked up to a termite mould and dug it, a termite suddenly exploded and I found myself flying to the top of the map with the resulting death upon my return to ME :D. A bit more balance there would make sense, for immersion ;).
