There are many new furnace-like devices included in this mod. They work like vanilla furnaces closely, but there are some differences.
Fuel[]
To start a smelting or cooking process, you'll need some kind of fuel. You can use everything that works in vanilla Minecraft too: Wooden tools and items, lava, coal, charcoal, saplings, sticks, etc. The fuel efficiency is much better than that of vanilla furnaces. The following list shows, how many items can be processed with a single piece of coal:
Type | Slots | Items per slot | Items total |
---|---|---|---|
Vanilla furnace | 1 | 8 | 8 |
Hobbit oven | 9 | 4 | 36 |
Dwarven forge | 4 | 8 | 32 |
Elven forge | 4 | 8 | 32 |
Orc forge | 4 | 8 | 32 |
Alloy forge | 4 | 8 | 32 |
Unsmeltery | 1 | 4 | 4 |
Restrictions[]
Hobbit ovens can be only used for food, whereas forges (all types) can not normally be used for food, except for cooking any kind of meat in an Orc forge.
There are no alignment restrictions so far (that might be changed in some future update). So Dwarves can use an Orc forge and High Elves might use Hobbit ovens even with negative alignment to the respective faction. As far as tried out, each brick (that has a cracked variant) can be cracked in each type of forge or furnace (except for Hobbit ovens of course).
Cooking[]
As said before, only Hobbit ovens and vanilla furnaces can cook food. Orc forges only produce rotten flesh from any kind of meat.
As of Public Beta 27 all devices except for the unsmeltery can be used to fuel a Kebab stand, which has to be placed on top of it. Note that it is possible to grill Kebab on top and smelt or cook something else in the device at the same time. For further information please refer to the Kebab stand page.
Alloying[]
All the forges offer a second input slot above the main one. Here you can put a second kind of material to alloy with the first one. The pairs of slots work independently, so you can combine tin with copper to bronze in one pair (fourth slot in the picture), and iron with coal to Dwarven steel in a second pair (third slot in the picture) at the same time. Just make sure, that the output slot is empty or occupied with the right kind of alloy, otherwise it will block the smelting. To learn which alloys can be made using the different devices and how they are done, look up the page of the device you are interested in, or check the ingots page.
Automation[]
The Dwarves among the readers might be interested in the automatic processing. This example here uses an unsmeltery, but it works with all furnace-like devices included here, just like an automatic furnace in vanilla Minecraft:
- The items to be unsmelted go to the box at the top and are fed into the unsmeltery by the top hopper.
- If someone knows, how to auto-feed the alloy slot (not included in this special example), please add it here. It is probably not (yet) possible.
- The fuel goes to the box at the left (or the right, front, back) and is fed into the unsmeltery by a hopper from the side.
- The finished ingots (or other items) appear in the bottom box and are sucked out of the unsmeltery by the hopper below.
Of course, you can leave out the boxes and put the items directly into the hoppers, or use another way to feed them there. It's just used as an example here.
