Cider is an alcoholic drink made from apples, and particularly associated with the Shire. This is not very surprising, as Hobbits are known for their love of good food and drink. Cider is not a very powerful drink; its alcoholicity never exceeds 9%. However, that doesn't stop it from being a nutritious drink, restoring over half the hunger bar for a sip of potent cider.

Brewing

Brewing cider requires, first of all, a barrel. The brewing recipe calls for three water buckets and six apples; the colour of the apples does not matter, green and red apples may even be mixed. The brewing consists of five potency steps: weak, light, moderate, strong and potent cider. With each step, the alcoholicity is increased.

Obtaining

Cider is commonly found in taverns, both in vessels on the counter and in barrels. It is also sometimes sold by bartenders in said taverns, as well as many of the other bartenders across Middle-earth (see infobox).

Effects

As is the case with all alcoholic beverages, cider will fill the player's hunger bar partly, depending on its potency. Additionally, it gives the Nausea effect, the duration of which equally depends on the potency of the drink; the player can, however, build up alcohol tolerance by drinking many alcoholic drinks in a row.

Potency Alcoholicity Hunger Restored Saturation
Weak 0.75%  1  .8
Light 1.5%  2  1.8  1
Moderate 3%  4  3.2  3
Strong 6%  8  5  5
Potent 9%  12  12  7.2  7
