“ | If you want to know what cram is, I can only say that I don’t know the recipe; but it is biscuitish, keeps good indefinitely, is supposed to be sustaining, and is certainly not entertaining, being in fact very uninteresting except as a chewing exercise. It was made by the Lake-men for long journeys. | ” |
–The Hobbit |
Cram is a food made by the Men of Dale, mentioned in The Hobbit and The Lord of Rings. It is a sort of equivalent to Lembas as it was used by Dale-men for long journeys; however, unlike Lembas it was bland and flavourless.
When eaten, cram restores 8 () hunger points. This makes it a very effective food. Since it is cheaper to make than bread, and restores significantly more hunger, it is worth making.
Obtaining
The Dale-men had strong trade relations with the Dwarves of Durin's folk, and therefore Cram can be found naturally spawning in Dwarven structures, such as a Dwarven house. Merchants and bakers sell it as well.
Cram is craftable on Dalish crafting table by using two wheat and one salt.
Trivia
Up to Public Beta 28, cram was uncraftable. After that, up to Update 34, it was crafted with sugar instead of salt.
