Dalish Captains are NPC's spawning in Dalish fortresses from which you can hire Dalish units. They're easily recognizable by their missing helms and the silver coin they hold in their left hand.

Upon hiring a unit from a Dalish Captain, the player earns the achievement "Dalishmen at Arms"

As with most trading NPC's, Dalish Captains stick to themselves most of the time, unless they're attacked, in which case they will defend themselves using their Dalish sword. If a Dalish Captain has been hurt, he will quickly heal himself once he's no longer in combat.

At an alignment level of +100 with Dale, you can talk to the captain and he will show you a screen that allows you to hire units. The prices and alignment requirements are as follows:

Unit Unpledged Cost (Silver Coins) Pledged Cost (Silver Coins) Alignment Required (Dale) Requires Pledge (Dale)
Dalish Levyman 20-40 (2coinX to 4coinX) 10-20 (1coinX to 2coinX) +100 No

  • Do you wish to hire my men, Person?
  • Nothing shall stand in the way of my men!
  • None can match the skill of my soldiers.

  • Money wins wars, not men! Ha ha!
  • I will offer you command of my men, if you can pay for them.

  • I do not give out my men for hire to any stranger that passes by!
  • Go kill some outlaws and Orcs, and then come back!
  • Your money alone is not enough to command my men.
  • Come back when you have proven yourself!
  • You are not yet worthy of commanding my men.
  • I don't allow any stranger to command my men.
  • Come back when you have some honour to your name!
  • You wish to hire troops? Prove yourself to the Kingdom of Dale, and then we can talk!

  • Be gone from these lands, foul Orc-servant!
  • You shall meet my sword!
  • You shall be punished for your crimes!
  • Your days of crime have come to an end, Person!
  • You will pass no further, villain!
  • By my sword, you will fall!
  • You stand no chance against our spears and blades, scoundrel!
  • Die, Bandit-wretch!
  • I will make quick work of you, scum!
