This feature is present in: Renewed, Legacy.

The Dwarven forge is a furnace-type block which has many useful properties. It can smelt up to four items at once; it can be used to make unique alloys; and it is also the only way of smelting Mithril, since this metal cannot be processed in a normal furnace or any other type of forge. However, only ores and stone-based materials can be smelted in the Dwarven forge -- it cannot cook food or smelt wood into charcoal, but there are no restrictions regarding fuel.

Players with positive alignment may craft a forge on a Dwarven or Blue Mountains crafting table, but they are also found in the entrances of Dwarven mines and in most other dwarven buildings. Therefore, by looting one from a mine, evil-aligned players may also have access to the forge because it does not have any alignment requirement.

In the renewed version only, forge recipes can be configured using datapacks, and they smelt at half the speed of their 1.7.10 equivalents. They also emit smoke particles through the hole in their top.

Crafting[]

The forge can be crafted on the Dwarven or Blue Mountains crafting table. The recipe is similar to the normal furnace crafting recipe but uses Dwarven bricks instead of cobblestone.

The four slots in the lower row of the top eight slots will accept cobblestone, sand, clay, bricks, and any ore block to be smelted. The forge will smelt items from these slots simultaneously, allowing you to smelt up to four different items at once. If you use bricks or pillars, you'll get the corresponding cracked variant, if available.

The darker slots above are alloy slots. By combining the right material in one of the alloy slots with an ore in a smelting slot below it, the forge will not smelt the ore, but will instead alloy the two items and produce an entirely different item in the output slot.

  • Edhelvir in an alloy slot with iron ore (or ingot) below it will produce a Galvorn ingot.
  • Luigon block in an alloy slot with iron ore (or ingot) below it will produce a Blue Dwarven steel ingot.
  • Coal in an alloy slot with iron ore (or ingot) below it will produce a Dwarven steel ingot.
  • Tin ore (or ingot) in one slot and copper ore (or ingot) in the other will produce two bronze ingots. This is more efficient than smelting the ores individually and crafting their ingots together to produce just one bronze ingot.

Iron, copper and tin ingots can also be substituted for their respective ore in these recipes, but it is somewhat wasteful, as it requires the ore to have already been smelted once. The diagram to the left highlights the four possible dwarven forge recipes along with their yields. For an excellent guide to Middle-earth ores and alloys, see here.
