Dwarven mines are naturally generated structures that generate in the Iron Hills, Erebor and Blue Mountains biomes. From the surface, it appears to be a plain roofed platform surrounded by fences and lit with glowing Dwarven bricks. However, four ladders in the middle lead down to a deep and winding mine complex down below, where the player can find loot chests and Dwarf miners.

The corresponding structure spawner for Dwarven mines only generates the mine entrance; the maze of tunnels surrounding the mine can only be found in mines that were generated naturally.

Occurrence[]

DwarfMineExt

The aboveground entrance to a mine.

Dwarven Mines generate commonly in the Iron Hills, Erebor, and the Blue Mountains. They're easiest to find in flat parts of these biomes, but they can also generate in hillier regions or even on mountaintops (though the mine section always generates below y=40, so mine entrances in high places will feature extraordinarily deep ladder-shafts). The mine-tunnels themselves generate much like those in vanilla mineshafts, and like vanilla mineshafts, they often intersect with caves.

Mines that generate in the Blue Mountains are identical to those in the lands of Durin's Folk. This works because the Blue Dwarves use Dwarven brick as well as Luigon brick, and since mines technically don't have their own NPC spawns, merely providing ideal conditions for the spawning of Dwarves and miners.

Structure[]

Entrance[]

The aboveground portions of Dwarven mine entrances consist of simple spruce platforms with skeletal roofs supported by Dwarven pillars and lit by four glowing Dwarven bricks. The center of these structures is a spruce log with ladders on every side, which provide access to a deep central shaft.

The entry-shaft is simple, with plain Dwarven brick walls and glowing Dwarven bricks for lighting. At the bottom is the mine's entrance room, a small chamber that serves as the central hub for the entire structure.

...into the mines.

These entry-rooms each contain three Dwarven forges, allowing players returning from the mines to smelt any ore they've gathered from the tunnels. From the central chamber, a single tunnel leads out into the mine-complex proper.

Tunnels[]

The mining tunnels of Dwarven mines are reminiscent of mineshafts from the vanilla game. They generate in random patterns, often intersecting and doubling back on themselves in confusing ways. The tunnels are 3x3, except at crossroads, which feature four seven-block-tall Dwarven pillars. Short staircases are usually scattered around the complex. Most tunnels feature support structures composed of Dwarven brick walls every four blocks. Tunnel floors feature a strip of Dwarven pillars running down the center, with glowing Dwarven bricks inset every four blocks. These provide plenty of light, more than torches would, allowing Dwarves, Dwarven warriors, and Dwarf miners to spawn.

DwarfMineChests

Chests in a mining tunnel.

Ores often generate in the walls of the mining tunnels, making them excellent places to go mining for good-aligned players. Additionally, every so often, vanilla crafting tables and loot chests will generate along the sides of these tunnels. These loot chests often contain valuable loot, such as silver, gold, and even mithril, as well as more common Dwarven loot.

Navigation[]

With their maze of tunnels, navigating these mines can be very difficult, even if you have good sense of direction. A good way to navigate these mines is to place signs or torches at the intersections to indicate the way out.

Inhabitants[]

DwarfMineMiner

A Dwarf Miner in a mine in Erebor.

In Mines in Erebor and the Iron Hills, Dwarven Mines will usually be full of Dwarves, Dwarf Warriors, and especially Dwarf Miners. The latter are traders that spawn throughout the underground at bright light levels, but they are much more common in mines due to the brightness of the mining tunnels.

Mines located in the Blue Mountains will instead see plenty of Blue Dwarves, Blue Dwarf Warriors, and Blue Mountains Miners.
