Note: In Harnedor there are also found mercenary camps and desert camps. Both are small camps and described on extra pages (please follow the links).

Harnennor settlements are the primary structures in Harnennor, the nearest of the realms of Near Harad. They come in two varieties: villages, which are hubs of trade and house most of the Harnedhrim population, and fortifications, which serve as military bastions. There are also ruined villages that can be found in Harondor. Each of the three settlement variants consists of various sorts of smaller structures.
Harnedor settlements are decent sized villages and fortifications in Harnedor in the south or ruined villages in Harondor in the north. They consist of wooden houses in various sizes (or ruins of those), or fortresses and tents.

Near Harad players will definitely want to visit those camps, as there's lots of loot to be found in them, and they offer plenty of questing opportunities.

Ruined villages can only be found in Harondor. They are the ruined version of the villages of Harnedor. There are no ruined fortifications. The ruins are also round in shape. The stockade is still there, but worn down by fire, wind, and rain, with a lot of gaps in it. Also the dirt paths are still there. In the center is always a burnt down tavern, sourrounded by a circle of ruined houses. The farms, pastures and hay bales are long gone. There are no inhabitants, loot chests, furniture, or whatsoever left here. Only some Rangers of Ithilien, guarding the region can be found.

Finding settlements
As with all the Mod's settlements, Harnedor settlements need some flat land to spawn. That means that the first rule of thumb when searching for settlements is to look for an area of flat land. Then, keep on looking, as settlements don't spawn very frequently. Note, that they do no longer spawn in scrubland (since 34.3). They're well worth finding, however, owing to their plentiful loot and questing opportunities.

If you are visiting a village for the opportunity to trade goods, the bazaar is the right place to go. Harnedor bazaars spawn not in every village, but if so, they are found in the very center. They are round wooden buildings with a woolen roof, and reed bars in the windows. They have an entrance to each of the four directions. Between those, on the outside, there are a pile of hay bales, four empty reed baskets, ores, and some empty bird cages.

Harnennor bazaars spawn in roughly every other village, serving as the village's central building when they do appear. The inside is decorated with banners of Near Harad and a rugged red carpet. In each quarter, a random market stall is located, in which different traders sell their goods and are willing to buy some of your stuff. Each stall has its own empty reed basket in the corner and its decoration hints, what the trader's profession might be. Besides of the stalls, you'll find melons, hay bales, suspended cages with birds in them, butterfly jars, armour stands, and wall-mounted weapons.

Bazaars can house bronzesmiths, farmers, butchers, brewers, huntsmen, fishmongers, bakers, miners, stonemasons, and lumbermen, though only four will spawn per bazaar (at random). bronzesmith stalls will feature armour and weapons; farmer stalls will feature hay bales and produce; butcher stalls will feature meat, and a block of kebab suspended from the rafters; stalls for brewers and bakers will feature various foodstuffs; fishmonger staffs will feature fresh fish and cauldrons, while huntsman stalls will feature animal products; and stalls for miners, stonemasons, and lumbermen will feature their tools and piles of the blocks they sell.

There's either a bazaar or a tavern in the center of each village, so only every second village has one. Fortifications have no taverns included. Taverns are considerably bigger than ordinary houses, and oval in shape. They are also wooden buildings with a woolen roof, and reed bars in the windows. They have no doors, just 2 big archways on each of the two long sides of the oval. Signs at the entrances tell the name of the tavern to the weary wanderer.

Most - though not all - Harnedhrim settlements are surrounded by circular stockades made of different logs. They are decorated with skulls on poles, probably from slain enemies. These stockades always generate as part of fortifications, but will occasionally be absent from villages, though most villages do feature them. These stockades don't include gates, but they do have large gaps at one point along their perimeter. In villages, a road leads to the central structure from this breach in the stockade, which features taller logs than any other part of the wall, which are decorated with banners of Near Harad.

Only fortifications have got a fortress in the center. It is a decent sized, square, fenced-off area, made of cedar wood, and wool. The front is decorated with banners of Near Harad and skulls. The only entrance, a Haradric gate, is heavily guarded by Harnedor warriors and archers.
+
Fortifications are build around central fortresses. These fortresses are similar to those employed by other factions, featuring a square wall with four towers at the corners and a central courtyard. These fortresses are a lot more skeletal than those used by other factions, however. They are primarily made of cedar wood and wool, with cedar fences making up much of the structure. Banners of Near Harad and skulls are mounted above the gate, of which the fortress only has one. The Harnennor Fortress is heavily guarded by Harnennor warriors and archers.

  +
The fortress gate leads into an open courtyard, full of warriors preparing for battle. A pair of training dummies is lined up against the left wall, while three armour stands bearing Harnennor armour are lined against the right wall. Piles of hay bales are stacked in the corners, likely for the pair of pre-tamed horses that are tethered near the front of the courtyard. Inside, a lot of Harnedor armour can be found on armour stands and Haradric weapons mounted on the walls or in the reed baskets. Harnennor stables occasionally generate as part of the inner ring of structures in villages, though this isn't always the case. Stables are about twice as big as ordinary houses, and oval in shape. They look somewhat similar to houses from the outside, as they have many similar design traits. They are built out of cedar wood and also feature woolen roofs and reed bar blinds on the windows. The similarities end there, however, as stables are longer and more open than houses, with many interior support beams and exposed rafters, as well as large openings barred by fence gates.

The interior of stables includes no flooring, just natural terrain. Some banners of Near Harad are suspended from the rafters of stables. Item frames mounted on the beams between these stalls can feature leads and saddles. One end of the stables holds stacks of hay bales, usually the one facing the center of the village. The other end features to be the living quarters for the stablehands (who do not spawn with the structure). One of those small rooms contains a chair, a table with drinks and food, and a reed basket. Note: There are other structures in Harnennor, such as Morwaith Mercenary Camps and Harnennor Camps. Neither are considered Harnennor Settlements and have their own pages.

Near Harad players will definitely want to visit those settlements, as there's lots of loot to be found in them, and they offer plenty of questing opportunities.

Types of settlements

Fortification

HarnedorFortifications

Fortifications are round structures with a fortress in the center. The fortress is surrounded by six tents and guarded by four watchtowers. The whole settlement is protected by a stockade.

Village

HarnedorVillage

Villages are round settlements, often surrounded by a stockade and containing a short dirt path leading to the center of the village. A single opening is present in the stockade, featuring a signpost that displays the name and founding date of the village. In the center of each village sits either a tavern or a bazaar surrounded by a dirt path. In an inner circle around the central building, up to six houses, stables and/or smithies can generate. Farms, pastures and hay bales form an outer circle around them, containing up to fifteen structures.

Ruined Village

RuinedHarnedorVillage

Ruined villages can only be found in Harondor. They are the ruined version of the villages of Harnennor. There are no ruined fortifications. The stockades around these villages have been worn down by fire, wind, and rain, and feature a lot of gaps; the dirt paths, though still present, are overgrown. In the center of each ruined village is always a burnt down tavern, surrounded by a circle of ruined houses. The farms, pastures and hay bales are long gone. There are no inhabitants, loot chests, furniture, or whatsoever left here. Only local NPCs, either Rangers of Ithilien or Southrons, can be found guarding these villages.

Finding settlements

As with all the Mod's settlements, Harnennor settlements need flat land to spawn. That means that the first rule of thumb when searching for settlements is to look for a large area of flat land. Then, keep on looking, as settlements don't spawn very frequently. Note that they no longer spawn in scrubland (since Update 34.3). They're well worth finding, however, owing to their plentiful loot and questing opportunities.

Structures

The following structures can be found in Harnennor settlements:

Harnennor Bazaar

If you are visiting a village for the opportunity to trade goods, the bazaar is the right place to go. Harnennor bazaars spawn in roughly every other village, serving as the village's central building when they do appear. These cluttered structures are round and made of cedar wood, featuring a woolen roof and reed bars in the windows. Each bazaar has four entrances, one facing each of the cardinal directions. Between those, on the outside, there is a pile of hay bales, four empty reed baskets, a pile of ores, and some empty bird cages.

The inside is decorated with banners of Near Harad and a rugged red carpet. In each corner, a random market stall is located, in which different traders sell their goods and might buy some of your stuff. Each stall has its own empty reed basket in the corner, and features decorative items that hint at the trader's profession. Outside of the stalls, you'll find melons, hay bales, suspended cages with birds in them, butterfly jars, armour stands, and wall-mounted weapons scattered about.

Note: There is no ruined version of the bazaar.

Inside a Harnennor bazaar, a purveyor of minerals awaits a buyer.

Harnennor Tavern

Taverns and inns are probably the most important buildings for wanderers in Middle-earth. Here, the weary find food and rest from their long travels throughout lonely and unknown countries.

Either a bazaar or a tavern is present in the center of each village, so roughly every other village has a tavern. Taverns are considerably bigger than ordinary houses, and are oval in shape. Like many Harnedhrim village structures, they are made of cedar wood, feature woolen roofs, and have reed bars in the windows. Harnennor taverns have no doors, just a pair of wide archways in the longer two walls. Signs at the entrances list the name of the tavern.

These taverns feature wooden floors, strewn with thatch and covered by rugged red carpet. A lot of benches and tables with drinks, food and flowerpots populate the place, which is decorated with banners of Near Harad. Two large tables are located around the tavern's support beams, which often have item frames or weapon racks mounted on them, usually featuring weapons or relics. Four smaller tables are located along the walls of the tavern.

BarTheBartender

Some bartenders in Harnennor have curious names.

HarnedorTavernInside1

A bartender behind the counter.

One side of the tavern features the bar. Behind the counter, the bar features a furnace with Kebab, a cauldron, two barrels with alcoholic drinks, a vanilla crafting table and a Haradric crafting table, and some drinks and food on the tables. Here works the bartender, who might be willing to trade with you, if you've got at least neutral Near Harad alignment and enough coins to spend.

HarnedorTavernInside2

The Harnedhrim are not a private people, and their open inn quarters reflect this fact.

The opposite side of the tavern offers travelers a place to stay for the night. Only casually fenced off from the main room by reed bars, these two small guest rooms feature a single straw bed, a reed basket, and a small table each. Lacking doors, the rooms do not offer the privacy some guests may prefer. They do, however, offer loot.

Ruined Harnennor Tavern

Destroyed in wars long past, ruined taverns can only be found in Harondor, where they form the center of ruined villages. They are made out of cedar or charred wood. The complete wool roof is missing, all the furniture is gone, and grass and flowers have overtaken many of these structures. No merry songs are heard within--only a few lonely Rangers of Ithilien can be spotted here from time to time.

A testament to the brutality of the wars Harondor has faced through the centuries.

Harnennor Watchtower

Watchtowers can be found in the regions of Harondor and Harnennor in northern Near Harad. They spawn as part of fortifications, as well as seperately.

They are wooden towers with a wool roof, tattered wool sides and a rope leading to the top. Mounted on poles, you'll find a lot of skulls, probably from slain enemies. The towers were built by the Harnedhrim to maintain their control over the land. Each usually contains one to four warriors.

On the top, hidden under a fence post, a reed basket can be found, containg some weapons.

HarnedorTower

Harnennor Stockade

Most - though not all - Harnedhrim settlements are surrounded by circular stockades made of different logs. They are decorated with skulls on poles, probably from slain enemies. These stockades always generate as part of fortifications, but will occasionally be absent from villages, though most villages do feature them. These stockades don't include gates, but they do have large gaps at one point along their perimeter. In villages, a road leads to the central structure from this breach in the stockade, which features taller logs than any other part of the wall, which are decorated with banners of Near Harad.

The picture to the right shows parts of the stockade at the entrance, decorated with banners of Near Harad and skulls. It also includes the signpost located just beyond the entrance.

Ruined Harnennor Stockade

This is all that remains of a once mighty stockade: a few wood blocks, partially burnt down, worn out by wind and rain, with a lot of gaps in between. Some still have skulls on poles, which look sad and forgotten.

Harnennor Fortress

Fortifications are build around central fortresses. These fortresses are similar to those employed by other factions, featuring a square wall with four towers at the corners and a central courtyard. These fortresses are a lot more skeletal than those used by other factions, however. They are primarily made of cedar wood and wool, with cedar fences making up much of the structure. Banners of Near Harad and skulls are mounted above the gate, of which the fortress only has one. The Harnennor Fortress is heavily guarded by Harnennor warriors and archers.

Posts bearing Haradric weapons on racks can be found near the far end of the courtyard.

The far section of the courtyard features three small "rooms." The far corners feature small barracks areas under wool awnings, which each contain two straw beds and a reed basket. A third room between the two seems to be the warlord's quarters and contains a single straw bed, a table laden with drinks, and a reed basket. An anvil and a cauldron can be found next to the right-hand barracks, as can a Table of Command, while a vanilla crafting table and a Haradric crafting table can be found next to the left-hand barracks.

To the right and left of the gate, two sets of stairs lead up onto the battlements. The battlements provide access to the fortress's four turrets, as well as to the warlord's parapet at the rear. A Mûmak bone spike is built into this parapet just opposite the gate, from which a banner of Near Harad hangs. It is on this parapet that the fortress's Harnennor Warlord spawns, overlooking the fortress. If you've got enough alignment with the Near Harad faction and the necessary money, you may hire Harnennor troops from the warlord.

Southron Tent

Identical to the tents found in Harnennor Camps, Southron tents are set up around fortresses inside the stockade of a fortification. These tents are made of wool (red, orange, or brown with black highlights) for easy transport, and feature five posts on the inside for support. These tents are much more elaborate than those used in orc camps, featuring windows and banners of Near Harad, one atop the tent and eight on the interior.

Inside each tent is a barrel of arak or another alcoholic drink, two reed baskets full of food, equipment, and other supplies, a Haradric crafting table, a vanilla crafting table, and a straw bed.

A Harnennor Warrior spawns inside of each tent.

Harnennor House

Harnennor houses are the main structures in villages, where they make up the majority of the village's inner ring of buildings. Each village can include up to six of these houses, though most contain fewer than this. The houses are somewhat small, cross-shaped buildings with some windows and a single door. The windows have reed bar blinds.

A tattered carpet covers much of the floor in these one-room huts. The far side of a Harnedhrim house features a straw bed, with tables for drinks and food on either side. The right wing of the house features another food table, a furnace, and a filled cauldron. The left wing features a vanilla crafting table, a Haradric crafting table, and a reed basket with some loot nestled between them. Above both the bed and door is a piece of Harardric equipment mounted on a weapon rack.

Despite their humble size and style, these houses are quite cozy, and are inhabited by one or two Harnedhrim each.

The other room contains a straw bed and a second reed basket with some loot.

HarnedorStablesInside

Harnedor's horses are fast and hardy, used by Harnedhrim scouts against remaining Gondorian forces in Harondor.

Harnennor Farm

Normally, several farms are found around the perimeter of each Harnennor village. In the ruins, no farms are left. The farms are surrounded by cedar fences, closed off with wool. In the center, a scarecrow keeps watch and scares off thieving birds.

Two farmhands tend the vegetables to sustain the village. Sometimes, they are joined by a farmer, who might be willing to sell you some crops, buy a few tools, or lend you a farmhand, if you've got at least neutral Near Harad alignment and enough coins to spend.

Harnennor Pasture

Normally, several pastures are found around the perimeter of each Harnennor village. In the ruins, no pastures are left. They are surrounded by cedar fences. A variety of farm animals can be found here, along with some hay bales.

Hay Bales

Stacks of hay bales may generate instead of farms or pastures as part of a village's outer ring. These hay piles can be an excellent source of wheat.

Harnennor Village Signpost

Each village contains one signpost near the wall at the entrance. It is topped by a skull and illuminated by torches. Fortifications and ruins have no signposts.

Each signpost shows the name and the founding year of the village. The year is shown in Númenórean Reckoning (T.A.) rather than in Shire Reckoning.
