The Lord of the Rings Minecraft Mod Wiki

Hello all! This page is to help members of this wiki in creating infobox standard (clear background) images of NPCs.

The only prerequisite is some sort of graphic editor program (I use Adobe Photoshop, but GIMP is also a good choice). This tutorial does not cover their installation, however you should make some progress if you Google "GIMP/Photoshop download."

Getting your screenshot

The first thing you need to do is get a screenshot of the mob you want an image of. Technically any screenshot would do, however in a normal shot, the background would be tediously hard to remove, and you'll be wasting hours of your time on images which are unlikely to be of a great standard anyway. My preferred method, which allows me to make many, many images very quickly is as follows. Build a tower, preferably at least 40 blocks high, on level terrain (superflat could be useful here). Then, top the tower with a block that has a pretty plain texture (I use block of Quendite). Floating in the air, at diagonals to the top of the tower, build a structure for you to stand on that is 3 blocks away from the pillar (with two blocks of air diagonally between the standing block and the top of the pillar). The block you are standing on should be on the same level of elevation as the top block of the pillar. Build a wall behind the standing block after this. Now, go to your graphics settings and change the render distance to as low as it possibly can be. That way, the sky is one colour, and the ground cannot be seen. Spawn the desired entity on the pillar and stand on the block facing it, backing as far into the corner of the wall as you can. Wait for the entity to looks at you, enter F1 mode and take the shot.
