There is another astonishing thing about Hobbits of old that must be mentioned, an astonishing habit: they imbibed or inhaled, through pipes of clay or wood, the smoke of the burning leaves of a herb, which they called pipe-weed or leaf, a variety probably of Nicotiana.

The Fellowship of the Ring, Concerning Pipe-weed

A Hobbit pipe is an item used to smoke pipeweed. It can be obtained as a rare drop from Hobbits, from chests inside Hobbit holes or by trading with the bartenders in taverns. It cannot be crafted.

You can repair your own Hobbit pipe by simply combining it with another Hobbit pipe into the inventory crafting. However, the dye will disappear after fixing (if it was already not white). The material to reforge the Hobbit pipe or to applicate modifiers to it is unknown.

Usage Edit

Right-click and hold the pipe when you have pipeweed in your inventory to blow a smoke ring and consume one piece of pipeweed. If your player is hungry, this will also restore a small amount of the hunger bar 2 (2food).

Dyeing Edit

By default, pipes blow white smoke rings. However, you can craft a pipe with any dye and the pipe will change to blowing smoke rings of that dye colour. There are sixteen possible colours of smoke ring, one for each type of dye.

If you want something more special, a magic pipe can be crafted with a mithril nugget instead of dye. What this pipe does is up to you to find out, but it's definitely worthy of a wizard!

Be warned, if you change the color of your pipe after it's been crafted with a mithril nugget, it will lose its magical properties!

Upon blowing from a magic pipe, the player earns the achievement "Weed Wizard"

Undyeing Edit

As of Public Beta 28, pipes can be undyed using a cauldron. See the page on undyeing for more information on this .

History Edit

  • When dyeable and magic pipes were first introduced in Public Beta 4, crafting a magic hobbit pipe required a diamond. This was changed to the current recipe with a mithril nugget after diamonds were removed from Middle-earth.
