Out of the shadows a ladder was let down: it was made of rope, silver-grey and glimmering in the dark, and though it looked slender it proved strong enough to bear many men.

The Fellowship of the Ring, Lothlórien

Mallorn ladders are a new type of ladder made from the wood of mallorn trees, and used by the Galadhrim Elves to climb up into their homes.

Lore

Mallorn ladders are not directly mentioned in Tolkien's works; instead, the Galadhrim seem to use rope ladders to access their flets. Flets were small platforms on the trees of Lothlórien, from which the Elf wardens stood guard. (True flets and marchwardens have yet to be added.) In the novel, however, treehouses were mainly accessed by stairs.

Availability

They can be found naturally in Lothlórien on the sides of large trees, providing access to the Elven Treehouses in the treetops. But be careful, for if you falter, a long drop awaits you.

Note that only regular Elven Treehouses uses ladders; Grand Elven Treehouses have stairs leading up to the structure.

Crafting

Mallorn ladders can only be crafted on Galadhrim crafting tables using seven mallorn sticks. Similarly to vanilla ladders, the process yields three ladder parts.
