Mattocks are a combination of a pickaxe and an axe. It does an excellent job of mining both stone and wood. However, this ability comes at a price. Mattocks take four ingots instead of three for a pickaxe or axe but they don't gain any durability. Mattocks are great for saving inventory space when you need to both mine stone and chop wood, but when you're not doing both, it is probably better to just use a pickaxe or axe.
Statistics[]
Mattocks have the same reach and attack speed as swords, but deal 2 less damage than swords. You could attempt to use a mattock as a weapon, but it is not recommended.
Crafting[]
The mattock crafting recipe is the pickaxe and axe recipes merged together. Each mattock must be crafted on the respective crafting table.
