At that moment Pippin saw why some of the troop had been pointing eastward. From that direction there now came hoarse cries, and there was Grishnákh again, and at his back a couple of score of others like him; long-armed crook-legged Orcs. They had a red eye painted on their shields.

Mordor Orcs are the standard type of Orc in the Mordor biome. They form the bulk of the servants and soldiers of the Dark Lord Sauron.

Spawning[edit | edit source]

These Orcs are most commonly found in Mordor, where they can spawn day and night due to ash clouds from Mount Doom that block out the sun. This cloud also protects the Mordor Orcs from the debuffs they normally receive from being in sunlight.

They spawn in the areas surrounding Mordor as well, such as IthilienDagorlad, the Emyn Muil, Wilderland, and Gondor (including all its sub-biomes), but there they will only spawn at night or underground. They are able to spawn by themselves or in large groups. Due to the large numbers of Gondorian soldiers spawning in Gondor and Dor-en-Ernil, however, they pose relatively little threat to the foes of Mordor in those regions.

Additionally, Mordor Orcs can be found in dungeons encountered in areas surrounding Mordor, or locked up in cells at the bottom of Wood-elven Towers.

Behaviour[edit | edit source]

Mordor Orcs will attack any foes of Mordor. With Mordor Orcs, the chance of being attacked decreases the higher a player's alignment gets, and when one's alignment reaches +100 for Mordor, they will no longer be targetted.

When not attempting to kill something, the Mordor Orcs wander at random, although like other creatures of darkness they prefer unlit areas. They will not burn or be damaged by sunlight, but in direct sunlight they are submitted to slowness and weakness effects, like all other Orcs.

When not being engaged by an enemy, there is a chance that Orcs will start attacking each other in what is known as a skirmish, especially when there are many Orcs in close proximity. This fighting can spread and wipe out entire groups of Orcs. This happens with other Orcs as well, but is most common with the Mordor Orcs.

Mordor Orcs are among the bravest Orcs, as unlike many other kinds of Orc, they won't run away even if your alignment with Mordor sinks below -500.

Attack strength[edit | edit source]

The attack strength of these Orcs depends on the weapon they are wielding:

Weapon Damage (HP)
Pickaxe 3.5 ( 3.5 )
Axe 4 ( 4 )
Dagger 4 ( 4 )
Spear 4 ( 4 ) (melee), 5 ( 5 ) (throw)
Scimitar, Warscythe 5 ( 5 )
Battleaxe 6.5 ( 6.5 )
Warhammer 7 ( 7 )

Drops[edit | edit source]

Orcs commonly drop rotten flesh and Orc bones, and they uncommonly drop more useful items, such as Orc Steel ingots, maggoty bread, pouches, and Orc draught. Additionally, they have a rare chance to drop one or more pieces of their equipment or armour. Note that they won't drop equipment they aren't currently using; an Orc with a scimitar only has a chance to drop their scimitar, for example, not any of the other weapons listed below.

Hiring[edit | edit source]

Mordor Orcs can be hired from Mordor Orc Commanders, which spawn at Mordor Orc Camps. They have a starting price of 20 silver coins and require at least +150 alignment with Mordor to hire. They can also be hired from spider keepers for 20 silver coins, but require at least +250 alignment with Mordor. As always, as one's alignment increases, the price to hire Mordor Orcs decreases, with a minimum price of 10 coins.

Advantages Disadvantages
Cheap, especially for a well-armoured and well-equipped NPC Weakened in daylight
Good attack strength and armour Doesn't feature a ranged attack
Stronger than most faction Orcs Not an especially fast unit
