Morgul Iron Ore is an ore found in Mordor, Dol Guldur and Angmar. It is about as common as normal iron ore, and can be smelted into Orc Steel ingots in the Orc forge, which are used for a variety of Orcish crafting recipies. Morgul Iron is greenish-grey in colour, and can be found as an ore both in Mordor Rock and in stone. Its Mordor Rock variant can be found exclusively in Mordor, and appears as a lighter grey, while its stone variant can be found in Dol Guldur and Angmar and appears darker and more green.

Morgul Iron is very similar to regular iron, except it's darker and is used in making Orc Steel. Orc Steel is the only steel type in the mod that does not need to be alloyed with coal, which suggests that Morgul Iron is a sort of natural alloy, which could explain its colouration.

A pickaxe of at least stone or equivalent strength is required to mine this ore.

Occurrence[]

Morgul Iron Ore can be found in Mordor, Angmar, and Dol Guldur at the same rate as iron. Like iron, it drops as an ore block when mined, and must be smelted into Orc Steel to prove useful in most situations.

Morgul Iron is fairly common, but is often believed to be rarer than it actually is. In Mordor, Morgul Iron is fairly easy to find, and is in fact just as common as Durnor, but it is often taken to be rarer because it generates in smaller veins. In Angmar and Dol Guldur, Morgul Iron can easily be mistaken for coal, as the two ores look very similar and can be very hard to tell apart in the dark. It is actually no rarer in Angmar and Dol Guldur than it is in Mordor, but due to its similarities with coal it can be harder to find.

Uses[]

On its own, Morgul Iron is effectively useless, save perhaps as a decorative block. However, when smelted into Orc Steel with an Orc Forge, it becomes one of the most useful materials in the game for evil players. In addition, Morgul Iron can be alloyed in the Orc Forge to make stronger kinds of steel instead. Alloying Morgul Iron with Durnor produces Black Uruk Steel, while alloying it with Gulduril produces Morgul Steel.
