Green are the leaves I leave in Mirkwood.

–J.R.R. Tolkien

Northern Mirkwood is a forested biome, above Mirkwood and surrounding the Woodland Realm. It, unlike its southern counterpart, is mainly uncorrupted, and the forest is much less thick. No elves or structures spawn here, only vanilla animals, elk, boars, black butterflies, and Mirkwood spiders during night. There is also no fog here, giving the forest up north much more visibility.

Northern Mirkwood was a mainly uninhabited region that was part of the kingdom of the Wood-elves of Mirkwood. Unlike the majority of a Mirkwood during the War of the Ring and the Return of Sauron, northern Mirkwood remained untainted. But inevitably, as the dark power grew, the Woodland Realm and northern Mirkwood were attacked by forces from Dol Guldur. Evil forces attempted to assault northern Mirkwood many times, but eventually the forces of evil were driven out during the Battle Under the Trees in 3019.

Structures

No structures spawn in this biome.

Mobs

Vanilla animals and farm animals spawn here alongside the elk, wild boars, and butterflies. Good players must be careful at night, however, as after the sun goes down Mirkwood spiders can spawn.

Vegetation

Green-oak, beech, larch, oak, chestnut, spruce, fir, and pine trees all spawn here, along with regular vanilla vegetation. Red-oaks spawn occasionally here as well, although not on the same scale as in the Woodland Realm. The occasionally occurrence of the dark green Mirk-oak shows the beginning influence of the evil forces of the south.
