The Hobbit, An Unexpected Party

Orc Dungeons are small underground stone structures that can be found all over the northern parts of Middle-earth, used by Orcs as outposts. They contain 1-2 Stone Chests with Orcish loot, which can be a good jump-start for evil players.

Generation and Interior[]

Orc Dungeons are simple underground rooms built out of stone bricks, mossy stone bricks, and cracked stone bricks. Often, these dungeons connect to cave passageways, allowing players to stumble upon them while exploring. They can also generate a short distance below the ground, allowing players to discover them because the Orcs in a dungeon can be heard while the player walks above it. Every dungeon contains one or two chests. Prior to Beta 23, each dungeon used to contain an orc spawner, but it was removed to prevent exploitation. As of Beta 25, the chests were replaced by Stone Chests.

Each dungeon spawns 5 or so Orcs upon generation. The dungeon can contain Orcs of a single faction, or multiple factions in one, and this also depends on the biome in which the dungeon is located. For example, a dungeon in Eriador can generate with Gundabad Orcs and Angmar Orcs together, whereas one in the Misty Mountains can contain Orcs of Gundabad and Angmar alongside Uruks from Isengard.

The dungeon chests contain all sorts of loot, including Orc draughts, ingots of varying metals, Orc armour, Orc weapons, arrows, maggoty bread, pouches, bones, skulls, Orc bombs, etc. There is also a chance to find items previously exclusively found in evil biomes (i.e. gulduril) in the chests, making it highly beneficial for a player wishing to make a Morgul blade, Morgul armour, or a Morgul portal without having to enter Mordor, Angmar or Dol Guldur.

These dungeons are useful for good players to get some alignment by killing the Orcs, but they are especially handy for evil players to get some easy starter armor and weapons, and even perhaps mini-quests.
