Perry is a flavourful drink enjoyed by most Hobbits and made with pears. It does not make the player drunk as long as other drinks, due to its low alcoholicity, which never exceeds 9%. It shares this characteristic with other weak brews like ale and cider.
Perry can be brewed in a barrel; for this, you will need three water buckets and six pears, which grow on pear trees. The brewing consists of five potency steps: weak, light, moderate, strong, and potent perry. With each step, the alcoholicity of the drink is increased.
It is possible to find perry in barrels or vessels in various structures including Hobbit taverns, and it can be bought from Hobbit bartenders and orcharders and various Mannish traders (see infobox).
As is the case with all alcoholic beverages, perry will fill the player's hunger bar partly, depending on its potency. Additionally, it gives the Nausea effect, the duration of which equally depends on the potency of the drink; the player can, however, build up alcohol tolerance by drinking many alcoholic drinks in a row. Also, given that perry is a weak beverage, the effect will never last particularly long. Perry is the most efficient drink for players with little or no alcohol tolerance, as its low alcoholicity and high amount of hunger points restored make for a good choice in the early stages of the game.
