Rope is a block similar to ladders. It has the same functions as Elven rope, but does not damage players based on alignment. If you right-click a piece of rope with another piece of rope, it will extend the rope downwards or upwards (depending on where you look). A piece of rope behaves exactly like vines, except it can't be walked through.
