The Staff of Gandalf the Grey is a lore item that is equipped by the Grey Wanderer along with his famous sword, Glamdring. The staff is a long brown rod holding a grey-white gem on the top. It also has small branches sprouting around the gem.
Obtaining[]
The staff can not be obtained in survival mode and has no crafting recipe. The staff can only be obtained through the creative menu or by using cheats. You can also get the staff by slaying the Grey Wanderer in creative mode - killing the Grey Wanderer is impossible in survival, and very inadvisable.
It will be presumably obtained, as with other lore items, via questing when the major questing features have been added. But when those features will be added, that has not been revealed.
Damage[]
The staff of Gandalf the Grey does 5 (
) of melee damage when used. Unlike the staff of Gandalf the White, the staff of Gandalf the Grey is unable to do any ranged attacks. This makes it at the moment quite useless in combat, and is about as good as a wooden sword. The only difference between them is the staff's strong durability. The staff's stats and features may be changed in later updates.
Trivia[]
- The staff of Gandalf the Grey's texture is very similar to the staff Gandalf uses in The Fellowship of the Ring in the movie trilogy, when he led the Fellowship from Rivendell to the Mines of Moria. It was then lost in his encounter with the Balrog.
- Rods and wands are other words for the staves that are used by the Istari in Tolkien's work. Not to be confused with the wands such as in the Harry Potter books.
