  • The new update is fantastic, and Dorwinion has to be one of the most complete factions in the mod so far. It is interesting, feature-packed, and quite honestly beautiful. Very impressive for a single update, let alone one with two whole factions in, so well done on that mod team!

Of course, there is no reason why Dorwinion can't get even more content, so I will suggest some of that now. (Yes I know there are other factions that should be given higher priority for new features, but those can wait for another time)

    Elven Warriors

The Order of Bladorthin should get a ranged unit, either that or the Elf Warriors would be able to switch to bows like other elven mobs. For this I propose a new ranged weapon, the Dorwinion Elven Bow which would be similar in stats to the Galadhrim bow, maybe a bit less.

Bladorthin Captains should also get their own structure to spawn in, separate from the guards in their camps. A tower or something might be nice.

    Blocks

There should be a Dorwinion Pillar block, craftable from chalk, in the same manner as the other pillar types.

Mossy Dorwinion Brick and Cracked Dorwinion Brick should be added, because why not? And of course slabs and stairs and walls for all these block types.

Gold trimmed and silver trimmed dorwinion bricks for the elves. Carved Dorwinion Brick for either men or elves. This could have a nice grape or wine-cup pattern design on it.

Juicy Dorwinion Bricks, dorwinion bricks with a purple/red scheme. They would be made by crafting red grapes with normal dorwinion bricks. Crush the grapes up and splash them on the white wall and you have a nice stained grape coloured brick!

    Grape Blocks

You should be able to craft 9 grapes of the same type into a Grape Block. This would be similar to metal blocks for ore storage and decoration.

Grape blocks could also be eaten like cakes. If you fall on it from high enough, it will get squished turn into water. Splash!

    Other food

Grape pies like the berry and cherry pies in the mod, grape bread crafted with wheat and any grape type, raisins made by cooking grapes (either type) in a furnace or oven.

Grape Cram, a Dorwinion version of Cram, made with grapes instead of sugar.

Also Olive Oil made by crafting olives and mugs. This could be used as furnace fuel, or drunk. I'm not sure what else it could be used for.

    Vegetation

Dorwinion should get a new set of flowers, which would also be reused for other regions in Rhun. Some of these would be purple which would match the faction's colour theme and love of grapes.

I am not a flower expert so I don't know what flowers would be good here. Hopefully the mod team can come up with some.

Berry bushes should be removed from dorwinion.

Also, Dorwinion could get some new trees. The cypress trees are great, they really give the biome an exotic Mediterranean feeling and it should definitely stay that way, so I'm not suggesting anything big. Plum trees would be used for fruits, wood, etc (these could also spawn in Harad and other places) and also the orange, lemon and lime trees from Harad could spawn in Dorwinion.

    New NPCS

Dorwinion wine taster, a special Vintner guard, he can be hired will alert you if you have poisoned wine in your inventory.

Dorwinion Blacksmith, spawns in a smithy and makes Vintner guard armour (and sometimes elven)

Dorwinion Bandit, a new skin for bandits in dorwinion.

Dorwinion Wine Maker, a new trader who buys grapes and sells wine and grapejuice, sometimes lives in a house.

Dorwinion Cavalry, the horse mounted version of the Vintner Guard. (Also an equivalent for elves)

Dorwinion Bartender, a new trader who spawns in a tavern and sells various food and drink items.

    That's all!

Thank you for reading my suggestion, please leave feedback, and I hope the mod team see this.

    • Not completely sure about all of these features but i'm a big fan of the winetaster i've been seeking for a way to avoid being poisoned by my friends for some time and this seems like an excellent way.

    • I appreciate your determination and thorough work. A fine proposal post indeed. But I must request you to clearly provide a reference to this recent and extensive proposal thread on the same subject and info on possible overlapping subjects. This is to save others from doing double work.

      One note on the contents:

Instead of food blocks, I prefer Mevans to add barrels and/or crates that can be used to store food items. Crates are nice as they offer a display functionality of 9 items per crate, barrels would be nice for larger quantities and storage, which could effectively increase a foodstuffs expiration date, if ever implemented. I'm thinking 27 per barrel. I may post a dedicated post on items to store foodstuffs (food decay) and drinks (thirst) for transport and storage purposes.

Personally I don't read all of these 'add this and that to existing factions' threads, unless I have time to spare, because most is either obvious and/or lore based, and these all may be considered planned features. I prefer to spend my limited time on features that get less attention and may actually add new aspects and experiences to the mod.

I haven't read that other thread on Dorwinion yet. I guess my buddies already covered that one. :)

    • Half-Elves for Dorwinion ?

        Loading editor
    • No, elf-human bonds/marriages were a sortoff no-go in elvish culture, it was seemed inappropriate and very few exceptions were made, to be honest I could count them on 1 hand: Lúthien and Beren, Aegnor and Andreth, Tuor and Idril, Imrazôr and Mithrellas (that one was most probably forced, Mithrellas had no-one left to defend her) and last but not least Aragorn Elessar and Arwen Undómiel

    • My guess is that human-elf marriages were more common among the commoners and what we read from the reports on marriages within the higher social layers of human and elven societies is just a tip of an ice-berg. The noblety / aristocracy within said societies was likely to keep up appearances and less inclined to approve of interracial mixed marriages than the populous. It may have been different for humans as for elves, of course. With humans being more encouragable towards marrying the immortal and elves being less supportive towards one of their kin marrying a mortal. Love is strong, and Tolkien has clearly shown this to us in the not nearly insignificant numbers of interracial couples of star actors featuring in his tales. I'm not saying huge numbers, just more than what we can directly observe. :)

Anyone else notice that its always Man - Female Elf? Never Male Elf - Woman?

Agreed. I think Half-Elves should be rare(but not overly so) NPCs in a few factions such as Dorwinion, the Avari(when they're added) and maybe Dol Amroth?

    • Idea if someone didnt suggest it already just an idea since grape blocks sounds weird

Crates of food just put 9 grapes in crafting grid  and it gives grape crates (same with other food)

Sorry if this isn't alive anymore if I have to make my own suggestion for this please say so I'm too tired to look at every single thing (just remove this if needed )

    • Why would putting 9 pieces of food together make a crate? Is the crate made of the food?
