It has come to my attention that the system for managing Featured Articles and Featured Blog Posts has fallen into disuse. I am calling for a revival of this system, as I feel it is very useful in maintaining the quality of our wiki.

For those of you who don't know, featured pages are well-written articles that showcase the best that the wiki has to offer. They serve as role models for others, and can easily be accessed through links on the home page.

How does a page become featured?

Administrators and moderators are responsible for featuring pages that they feel are exemplary. Featured articles must provide complete and concise information, have a well-organized format, and adhere to the Wiki Style Guide. Again, please note that quantity does not necessarily mean quality. Featured blog posts are more ambiguous. They can be important notices that contributors to the wiki would find useful, or they can simply be well-written works that positively reflect the spirit of our community (a good example is The Adventures of Prince Imrahil).

Featured articles are marked with a mithril ingot () and featured blog posts are marked with a gold ingot ().

Note to admins and mods: When marking a page as featured, please use the template {{Featured Article}} or {{Featured Blog}}. That way, the pages are automatically added to the featured article or featured blog category pages.

What am I asking you to do?

Regular wiki contributors: This is simply to notify you that such a system exists on our wiki. If you ever have trouble writing articles for our wiki, simply check out the Featured Articles page for some good examples. Hopefully, this will give you even more motivation to contribute positively to our community.

Admins and mods: The featured pages categories are in need of some clean-up. Many entries there are outdated. I will be working on clearing some of that up later, so don't be offended if your months-old blog post suddenly becomes unfeatured. Help is welcome, but I think more of our effort should go to finding new pages to feature and periodically renewing featured pages to ensure that they reflect current wiki standards.

Do you guys have any other ideas on how to improve this system? I'm always open to new suggestions :)

The point of featured pages is to show off things that our community has built. Threads are a tool for us to use, but they rarely are the end product. As Sinth said, threads are for temporary discussions, and anything in them that deserves to be featured could easily be transferred to a blog or even an article.

So I will go ahead and create a board for proposing featured pages. Majority vote is a good idea, however what should the threshold be? We can't expect every admin and mod to vote on every proposal, as some of them could be inactive at the time. Also, I am debating whether or not to have a format for these proposals. Perhaps for every thread, the author should explain why he/she thinks a page deserves to be featured.

Thoughts?

I think Vanilla pages should not be featured as they have nothing much to do with the mod itself.

Friends, I would very much like your opinions on the technicalities of a voting system.

@MysteryFTW I think vanilla pages should still have a chance to be featured if they are exceptionally well-made. There probably won't be many anyway, since most vanilla pages refer to the Minecraft Wiki for the bulk of the information.

As do I, also I agree that it would be best if Users created Threads describing why they believe a certain article or Blog-Post should be featured so as to nominate them.

The Featured Pages board is now up! Every petition for a featured page must include an explanation as to why the page deserves to be featured. At least three kudos by either admins or mods are required for the petition to pass.

Proposal:

For next update we need to ensure that for each feature type there is at least one exemplary page listed in the Featured Pages Board. This will enable us all to use the source of those pages for new pages we need to create for next update. I'll see if I can find time to assist in preparing this.

Note that I expect the next update will be launched briefly prior to or durin my 2 week holiday, when I will not have access to my PC. This implies I will not be able to coordinate page creation or editing efforts. I propose to appoint 1 or 2 staff members to coordinate ALL efforts following-up on the next changelog. Main prerequisites: content moderator or admin & available 2-4 hours a day during first 2 weeks after new update launch. I will be glad to assist once I return from my holiday leave (which will be on August 23rd), but my availability may be limited to max. 2 hours per day after that.
