I know that Hytale is not even in closed beta but I wanted to open a discussion. Seeing that it seems tbat minecraft is losing it's charm rapidly and also that this mod with a few more is keeping it alive, even though it started started introducing new content quite quickly, but it is too late.
Hytale already seems quite good and seeing it will be open too modding, maybe it could be reshaped by Mevans seeing that lotr may be more realistic in Hytale.
Now, Hytale may easily be a total stsrt from scratch and not just copy paste, which I also think.
I want to hear thoughts of the people.
At this point I think it’s way too early to say anything definitively about Hytale. It could be interesting, but it very well might not come to anything. We can’t really say that Hytale seems quite good at this point, or that Minecraft is dying (people have been saying that as long as I can remember).
Hytale would certainly mean a total start from scratch, and not for the code but also probably most textures and models and all of the content. Almost everything would need to be redone to fit the style. So I highly doubt the mod team would start over and do that (though that’s just my personal opinion).
As to whether or not Hytale will even be a significant competitor to Minecraft also remains to be seen. It seems to share a lot of the basic gameplay, but also looks like a distinctly different style, at least from the trailer. Minecraft is so hugely popular that it will be hard to dethrone it (though certainly not impossible). Anyway, I’m curious what people here think about Hytale, so here are a few polls:
I don't believe hytale will ever really become as popular as minecraft.
- A major reason there will be that minecraft is significantly older, and hytale will be seen as a copy of it.
- Then also there won't be enough content in Hytale to attract players from the start, and players will eventually return to minecraft. Then they will have hard time changing their minds about Hytale anymore, when it gets lots of content.
- Then, from what I have seen, it won't be as blocky as minecraft, which will also make it more confusing to people who are only expecting improved minecraft.
Then also it would require completely rewriting the mod, and hytale uses significantly more detailed textures, which would either mean using textures that are completely out of place, or recreating every single texture in the mod. And also some minecraft features might not exist in Hytale, or might work very differently. I mean things like poison, wither, strength effect, fall damage, burning, AoE effects, armor and weapons (I think moving the combat system might be rather big job)
Obviously it could be nice if it was done, but would it be worth the time, when the time could also be spent adding new features to the mod? I doubt it.
Hytale already has content Minecraft still doesn't.
Complex dungeons, factions, big realistic animal world, etc. and this is just the beggining.
The things to come are enourmous.
I think Minecraft found someone of it's own size.
I think that since not one person here (myself included), has even experienced Hytale (since it is still in development), we should keep our minds as opinion free as possible, test the game/watch YouTubers test it, then pass our verdicts.
Seeing the trailer, I think Hytale is trying to bring Terraria-like complexity to a 3d Minecraft-like sandbox experience. As a Terraria fan as well, i agree with this. but only time will tell whether it will be as popular as Terraria or Minecraft.
From what i saw Hytale is trying to be next generation Minecraft or shall we say spiritual sucessor to Minecraft, i don't think that's a bad thing, i will always have a soft spot for Minecraft but if someone can combine the freedom minecraft provides with sense of adventure provided by RPGs i am all for it, whether or not Hytale can actually do that remains to be seen but props to them for trying.
