  • although some people may think this is stupid, I think it would be a fun edition for collecters to obtain, it also adds 1 more little reason to go to utumno. the banner should only be obtainable on the fire level from a rare drop of a banner bearer, it should also represent the 3 levels of utumno and morgoth/melkor

    Any opinions would be appreciated

    • I think it would be a cool little addition, but I think there should be different banners for every layer of Utumno. On each layer they would randomly (rarely) generate on the walls or be carried by a rather uncommon Utumno Orc Banner Bearer, who would have quite of a high chance (40%? 60%?) to drop the banner he carries. The banner bearers would also make Utumno a little more difficult.

    • Nah, Melkor's only banner style was pitch black.

    • Eh, it could be interesting

    • I like it. What would banner protection do with this though?

    • @Jurassic Sean:

Ok, I see how the 3 layers thing is a bit silly, but why not still have Utumno banner bearers with pitch black banners? Because it would be kind of wierd with them being a random, non-organized orc horde, not a marching army? Although it doesn't make much sense, it would add some extra challange and interest. Banners could still rarely hang from walls too (possibly they could have a ripped texture).

      @Krillian57:

I don't think this would give terrain protection when placed on a valuable block, it would just buff the NPC-s around banner bearers.

    • Since simply having black banners is kind of boring, why not have them be tattered and ruined? I doubt they'd be kept in good condition after 3 ages have passed.

That would be truly fitting for a ruined underground fortress of pure evil.

    • The orcs are still there, and as orcs are, they would probably hate the other levels enough to make their own banners to show they're different. I would think of making different sets of armor, but then I realized that this armor is from back in the old days, when utumno was still a thing, so they wouldn't be able to make new armor.

    • Were banners even a thing before the awakening of the elves?

    • Probably. Manwe had a herald so why not a banner

Dude, why would the Orcs of different levels be enemies? They are closer to the Elves (genetically) and therefore have a bit more wit. Also, they still speak of their Master, who has been gone for almost three Ages. They are loyal to their creator (as loyal as Orcs can be), and therefore it makes sense they would have kept the original banner.

      • coughs* lore-wise, orcs deep inside hated Melkor more than anything else because of the suffering he's putting them through *cough* but I really like the suggestion of a tattered black banner... would make sense.

Perhaps the 'difference' on the three levels would be the COLOR of the tatters? So technically they would have to be holes right, but instead I would think of them showing the 'background' of that level, making it look more like splotches?

So the banners on the first level would be tattered black and have lighter blue or grey holes. (probably bluer, like the blue utumno bricks)

The second level would have deeper purple 'holes' like the obsidean utumno bricks.

And the third levels 'tatters' would be fiery red, like the fire utumno bricks.

Or maybe all the tatters are just holes :P I don't know up to mevans XD but great suggestion!

Orcs even hate themselves, but still flee from fearsome foes (in the mod and the books).

What if, instead of the tatters being splotches, the tatters were made differently?

Level 1 would have ice around the edges, because the banners aren't any special wool or cloth, and some holes would have ice around them.

Level 2 could be very jagged, as when carrying the banner around, it got ripped on a few of the obsidian stalactites, and therefore had many jagged edges at the bottom, maybe even making it look like 3/4ths of a banner instead.

Level 3 would have burn marks and holes with burnt embers around them, because it's the level of fire.

That would be interesting banner variants and fitting for the different levels. But how would the ice banner have become wet for the water to freeze? Maybe it could be because of the dripping stalactites.
