I would agree that Dunland should be friends. Nobody seems to like good ol' Dunland.
@Wookiee93 - I think there are definitely some issues with the way alignment is set up right now, but I don't think you should use current problems to guarantee future problems in this sense. Nobody in the mod team (as far as I know) has said that the alignments are set in stone. They even made a command that allows you to change relationships as you see fit! As far as good factions being opposed to orcs, it makes perfect sense in my opinion. Anyone can tell that orcs are twisted and evil just by looking at them. Mortal enemies to everyone might be a bit much, but I see no reason why any truly good faction wouldn't be enemies with them. (If Isengard gets units that aren't just orcs that might change things, but that's not the case right now.)
The problems with inter-faction relations affect all factions, I don't see why Bree would be any different. And considering how Bree guards will attack ruffiens, and villagers will run away from them (which makes no sense imo), I don't forsee Bree's inter-faction relations being any better.
While I agree that most good factions should be hostile towards orcs, the problem is that they're mortal enemies with all six orc factions. This wasn't a problem when there were only three alignment categories, but it becomes a problem with the five category system. Why should Isengard and Dorwinion, two factions that don't even know each other exist, be mortal Enemies?
Anyways, I haven't really messed around with the commands that change inter-faction relations. Do they change which factions are listed as allies/enemies in the faction menu, or is it only a technical change?
You make some very good points. I don't know anything about Bree yet, but that does seem strange. And your thoughts on Dorwinion vs Isengard make sense. I was thinking of the older factions, like the Galadhrim, High Elves, and Dwarves, as they would have grudges that go way back, but for other places, like Dorwinion, Wood-elves, Dale, and Isengard, that wouldn't really make sense.
I think my biggest issue is that inter-faction relations aren't really being used to their full extent. They were ment to replace the old Good vs Evil system, but at the end of the day, none of the good factions are enemies, and none of the evil factions are enemies. So it's still just good vs evil.
Now I'm not saying every faction needs to be grey, but something like the orcish factions being mortal enemies with all the good factions is lazy and shallow. Dunland used to be enemies with Gundabad, which I think could make sense. And (if I remember correctly) the Taurethrim were briefly enemies with Gondor, which could also make sense.
This also applies to factions being friends. The Hobbits should probably be friends with Dunland, since Hobbits lived there at least as long as the dwarves did. The Woodland realm should be friends with Dale, since they are important trading partners and fought on the same side during the BotFA. And the one that always baffles me, why the Hell are Isengard and the Half-trolls friends? They have zero interaction, and nothing to indicate they would get along any more than the other orcish factions (none of which Isengard is aligned with).
I would'nt mind seeing a feature down the road were you could forge friendships between neutral factions in-game. That could also be useful for server play.
