The Utumno Snow-troll is an evil monstrosity that only spawns in the Ice level of Utumno. They are identical to the regular Snow-trolls that can be found in Angmar and Forodwaith, having the same health and dealing the same damage; their only differences are in faction allegiance. They are armed with spiked clubs as their melee weapons and have a unique ranged attack.
These trolls were originally created by Melkor, to imitate and mock the Ents. Somehow, though their master has been defeated, they have endured in his ancient fortress.
Killing an Utumno Snow-troll earns the player the Utumno achievement "Troll in the Dungeons."
Spawning[]
These trolls spawn only in the Ice level, that is, the highest level of Utumno, and they have no way to venture anywhere else. Like their Angmar-aligned counterparts, they have 40 health, the lowest of all trolls.
As these trolls cannot leave Utumno, they will never see the light of day. However, if spawned by the player in Middle-earth in creative mode, they will be killed by the sunlight like most other trolls. They will run in panic when exposed to the sun and eventually disappear in an icy blast about 15 seconds later. That is, unless they find some sort of shade or water.
Mutations[]
Just like every other type of troll, Utumno Snow-trolls can spawn with two heads. The two-headed variant has 60 health instead of the normal 40, runs faster, and deals more damage and knockback in its attacks.
Behavior[]
These trolls will attack any player who dares venture into their realm on sight. Because they are aligned with the Utumno faction, the player's alignment with them is fixed at -66,666, and this cannot be changed. They will also attack any non-Utumno NPCs, which are all their mortal enemies.
If the player or non-Utumno NPC ventures within 22 blocks of their line of sight, these trolls will begin throwing snowballs as a ranged attack. These deal a small amount of damage and knockback. Yet, if the player ventures close, the troll will switch to its club and charge at the enemy to deal melee damage. These attacks are not as strong as those of a regular Utumno troll, but they are still dangerous especially if, as is common in Utumno, the troll is backed up by groups of Utumno Orcs or Wargs.
Attack[]
These trolls deal the following damage with their melee club attack and ranged snowball attack. If the troll has one head, its club attack deals 5 (), and if two-headed, its club attack deals 8 (). The club attack also deals some decent knockback (more so if the troll is two-headed), and their snowballs deal 3 (), with some slight knockback.
Unlike regular snowballs, the snowballs thrown by these Snow-trolls deal damage and knockback to both players and NPCs. These "special" snowballs will not be dropped when the troll is killed. They do drop snowballs upon death, but these are the normal type that cannot deal damage or affect players.
Drops[]
When killed, Utumno Snow-trolls can commonly drop some combination of the following: troll bones, wool, snowballs, slimeballs, leather, fur, and random pieces of meat such as raw chicken, raw venison, raw steak, raw rabbit, or raw porkchops. Thus, they are one of the few sources of decent food in Utumno (provided the player brings a furnace and fuel to cook it).
These trolls also have a semi-rare chance to drop silver coins. They also can rarely drop 1-4 Chill of Daedelos, or mithril nuggets. Finally, if spawned on the Fire level in creative mode, these trolls can also rarely drop a Pickaxe of the Underworld, like all other Utumno NPCs.
Hiring[]
Utumno Snow-trolls cannot be hired.
